Authorâs Note
Dear Reader,
Yes, YOU. It is with immense gratitude that I thank you for having joined Andy and I for a quick cuppa. Of course, when the story started I had no idea he would be such a bad man. I very rarely know where my stories will go or what will become of the characters. I start the story and the characters finish it. I hope you have found some enjoyment in the experience and that we can peek through the many keyholes I shall present you with in the weeks, months, and years that lay ahead. I sincerely hope that it will not be the last time we meet, but only the first of many. My approach to the craft of writing is firmly rooted in the notion that I am guiding you, dear reader, hand in hand, through a brief but encapsulating moment in time. Or perhaps you are the one guiding me. My stories would not exist if not for the many readers who bring them to life and give them substance.
I do not wish to bore you with a long story about myself, but many readers enjoy hearing about the authors who write the stories that they enjoy. Considering you are still reading this, I suspect you have enjoyed this story, at least, and wish to know more.
So I will indulge you while making this short and fairly sweet.
I think the most important thing to know about me is that I do not consider myself an author. I am merely a teller of stories and I love telling them, but putting them to paper is one of the most challenging things I do. Putting more stories to paper seems a daunting task for me, but fear not as this is what I love doing, and stopping is not part of the plan. I started watching horror films and scary television shows in the 80s at a very young ageâIâm sure most would agree that 3 years old is too young, but no one could stop me. I remember sitting and watchingâwith unwavering fascinationâthe images and events unfolding before my eyes. The shimmer of the knife in the moonlight, the sound of the screaming girl, and the ominous music in the background. I would tell all my friends at school about the horrors I witnessed the night before; about the worlds I witnessed written by the masters of horror and brought to life by some of the most talented directors in history. The expressions from start to finish on their faces are what inspired me. I soon found that if I had forgotten parts of the stories, I would make up alternative narratives on the fly. Sometimes, with the true cockiness of a Grade 3 student, I would consider my narration of the story better than the actual story itself. When I had no stories to relay, I began making them up on the spot, and my friends loved them all. Some were misses, but most of them were solid hits.
